This review walks through how I bought a 1 oz American Gold Eagle with Monero (XMR) from a site called Veldt Gold, start to finish. I go through the checkout process, the Monero payment, the shipping experience, and then actually test the coin to confirm it behaves like real gold.
If you have been wondering how to turn Monero into real, physical gold you can hold in your hand, this review is for you. The video behind this post was created as a result of a poll on X.com. Follow Monerica there to participate in future videos and polls.
Disclaimer
This is not financial advice. I am not telling you to buy gold, to buy Monero, or to use this specific company. I am simply sharing my personal experience placing a real order and getting it delivered so you can see how the process works in practice.
Who Is Veldt Gold?
You can find Veldt Gold listed on Monerica.com under the businesses & precious metals category. Veldt Gold is a bullion dealer in the USA that lets you buy physical gold, silver, platinum, and palladium with Monero. They ship bullion directly to you with insured, discreet delivery.
They also have a “sell to us” option where you can send them metal and get paid in Monero, but that is outside the scope of this review. Here, I am focusing purely on the experience of buying an American Gold Eagle with XMR.
Order Requirements and Choosing What to Buy
One of the first things to know is that Veldt Gold has a minimum order requirement of $2,000. Your cart needs to be over that amount before you can place an order. If you are concerned about large purchases and IRS reporting requirements, check their reporting page for details.
I wanted something that would be easy to sell later if I ever needed to. That is why I chose a 1 oz American Gold Eagle. These coins are very common, widely recognized, and highly liquid. If you ever need to sell, they are generally easy to move.
Once I decided on the American Gold Eagle, I selected it on their site and added it to my cart to begin the checkout process.
Step-by-Step Checkout With Monero
1. Add to Cart and Begin Checkout
After selecting the American Gold Eagle, I added it to my cart and clicked to check out. This moves you to the account and billing flow, where you either log in or continue as a new customer.
2. Create an Account and Enter Billing Details
The next screen lets you log into an existing account or proceed as a new customer. I continued as a new customer. At this stage you enter all of your standard billing information:
- Name
- Email address
- Billing address
- Other standard contact details
Here you also create a password for your future account. I filled in all the billing information, chose a password, and clicked Next.
3. Enter Shipping Address
The next step is the shipping screen, where you enter the address where you want the metal delivered. I carefully confirmed everything, including my apartment number. This is important if you live in an apartment, since bullion orders require a signature and you do not want any confusion here. Once everything looked correct, I clicked to place the order.
4. Select Monero (XMR) as Your Payment Method
If you click to place the order without selecting a payment method, the site will remind you that you need to choose a currency. In my case, I selected Monero (XMR) as the payment method and then continued to checkout.
As soon as I selected XMR, the checkout page displayed the price of the American Gold Eagle in Monero. The exact amount of XMR fluctuates every few seconds based on the live price of gold and the Monero price at that time.
Once the item, the shipping address, and the XMR total looked good, I clicked to place the order again, this time with Monero selected as the currency.
5. Paying the Exact Amount in Monero
After placing the order with XMR selected, I was shown the usual crypto payment screen:
- A QR code that you can scan with your Monero wallet
- The exact XMR amount to send
- The payment address, which you can copy and paste if you prefer
This part is critical: the amount needs to match precisely. Do not round up or down. If you overpay or underpay, your order can be pushed into a review state, causing delays.
I opened my Monero wallet, pasted the address, double-checked the amount and the fee, and then sent the payment.
6. Payment Detection and Order Confirmation
After a short wait, their system picked up the Monero payment. Once it was detected, the page updated to show that the XMR payment was complete and that the order is now in their system.
They also display detailed payment information for the Monero transaction. Here, you can see the invoice that matches your payment, which is helpful for your own records.
Shortly after paying, I received an email confirming that the order was placed. Later on, I received a separate email with shipping confirmation details.
7. Tracking the Order in Your Account
Since we created an account during checkout, I was able to log back into Veldt Gold’s website and see my order status in their dashboard. From there, I could see whether the order was pending, processed, shipped, and so on.
Shipping Experience
For this order, they shipped the coin via USPS 2-Day. I placed the order on a Wednesday, and it arrived on a Monday.
The shipment required a signature, which is good for security. You do not want a bullion order just sitting in your mailbox. However, if you live in an apartment, you will likely need to meet the mail carrier in person, because they are usually not going to bring it up to your door. If you miss them, you will get a slip in your mailbox and will have to go to the post office to pick it up.
Unboxing the Package
The package arrived in discreet, secure packaging. Inside, you can see that the coin was carefully wrapped and protected. The order also came with some marketing materials from Veldt Gold.
The American Gold Eagle itself looked good front and back. The condition of the coin was what you would expect from a reputable bullion dealer.
Testing the Gold Eagle With a Ping Test App
Just because a coin looks like an American Gold Eagle does not mean you should stop there. I wanted to do a quick non-destructive test to confirm that the coin behaves like a real gold coin.
App used: Precious Coin Tester
For this, I used a mobile app that performs a ping test. The basic process is:
- Install the app and select the specific coin type you want to test (in this case, a 1 oz American Gold Eagle).
- Place the coin on the tip of your finger.
- Tap it with another piece of metal. I used a silver coin.
- The app listens to the sound and checks the resonance profile against the known profile for that coin.
In the example ping test, you can hear the distinct sound of gold ringing. The app then shows whether the coin matches the expected resonance profile.
In my test, the app showed that the Gold Eagle passed as a real coin. I also tested it using a silver coin profile to make sure the app can tell the difference. A failed test when the profile is wrong helps confirm a positive test when the profile is correct. This helps prove the app is actually distinguishing between coins rather than just giving random results.
Of course, there are more advanced methods to test bullion, such as:
- Measuring weight
- Using calipers for precise dimensions
- Checking density
- Using X-ray or other professional tools
However, the ping test is a quick, non-destructive way to build confidence that what you received behaves like real gold.
Quick Recap of the Process
- Find Veldt Gold on Monerica.com under businesses & precious metals.
- Select over $2,000 worth of precious metals you want to buy to meet the minimum order.
- Choose something that is easy to sell later (I chose a 1 oz American Gold Eagle).

- Go to checkout, create an account, and enter your billing details.
- Enter your shipping address and confirm everything is accurate.
- Select Monero (XMR) as the payment method.

- Wait for payment detection and confirmation on the site.
- Watch for confirmation and shipping emails.
- Track your order status in your Veldt Gold account dashboard.
- Meet the mail carrier to sign for your order so it does not get returned or held at the post office.
