Choose the right plan

Select a plan that includes a US +1 phone number and data with inbound SMS support. This is important: the number supports receiving SMS for verification, but it is not a traditional phone line. Voice calls are not provided, and outbound SMS is not available. Calls can still be made through messenger apps and VoIP apps over data.

Install the eSIM correctly on iPhone (critical for SMS)

There are a couple of iPhone setup details that can make or break SMS verification.

1) If iOS asks for the line type, select “Voice and Data”

During eSIM setup, iPhone may ask what type of plan this is. If that prompt appears, select Voice and Data — not Data Only. If Data Only is selected, inbound SMS may not work, and there isn’t an easy “undo” later. It can require reinstalling the eSIM to fix.

2) Turn Data Roaming ON for the eSIM line

After the eSIM is active, go to the cellular settings for that line and enable Data Roaming. Without data roaming enabled, the inbound verification text often will not arrive at all.

Set up Signal with the new number

Once the eSIM is active and roaming is enabled, open Signal and start registration using the assigned US phone number.

Important if Signal is already installed: Signal is tied to the number currently registered inside the app. If Signal was previously set up with a different line and you want to register this new number instead, it’s usually easiest to delete Signal and reinstall it on Wi-Fi, then go through registration from scratch to trigger the SMS verification flow. If switching back to a different number later, repeat that same delete-and-re-register process.

Confirm it works and watch data usage

After registration, send a test message to another Signal user and confirm the reply is received. Then check the order page data balance. Send an image and refresh the data balance — it should drop slightly, showing active usage tracking.

Top up more data anytime
